Tutorial – Online Video Services in XPERIA X10
February 26, 2010 at 5:14 AM

The huge 4 inch screen of XPERIA X10 of course is great for watching video. It’s both big enough to make it comfortable and has really high resolution to show all details. In the short tutorial here I show two different video services live in the X10. The first one is the SVT-play service offered on the mobile web page of Swedish public service TV - SVT. The other service shown is the included YouTube client. In that client there is an important option to really experience video in the best way, the option is to “Watch in high quality” which really makes a huge difference compared to the normal mobile service offered by YouTube.

Of course there are lots of other services out there besides these two, both local and global but at least it should give you an idea on what to expect from the screen and the video decoding and streaming capabilities. In my opinion it looks great!

As always please remember that these demos are on prototype hardware and pre-releae software so things might change until release.

The video below is unedited and shot with the Sony Ericsson Vivaz so it also gives you a feel for the 720 HD recording offered there! (remember to click “watch on Youtube and select 720p to see it in full quality)

Product Body

Thrilled

There is this online shopping place that stood out for me that had a dark backdrop, beautiful bath and body products, lovely soaps and unique offerings. In fact, this beautiful shop is where I discovered the steampunk artist that created the art that I used to base my tattoo on.... that I was so inspired by. All of the offerings were products that were made by indepe! ndent artisans like me, so I thought I'd be in touch with owner and send samples and see if they might be interested in my soaps or products.

I wasn't that confident because, at the time, they were carrying Arcana, Villianess, and Haus Of Gloi, and my labels up against their labels are like Yin and Yang. Dark and light (even though I relate more with theirs at heart, shhh). Mine are a bit happyhappy joyjoy. But I contacted them nonetheless and promoted myself and asked to send samples. Laura said, "send one. That's fine."

I sent her a box with 3 full bars of soap and 4 or 5 slivers of other soaps, samples of scrubs and samples of Creme Fresh. I knew one sample wouldn't represent my company and if she didn't like the scent I chose for her, then I'd be out of the running. I know scents. Some are total turn offs. What works for me, can smell like hell to someone else.

Two weeks later, I get a! n email a mile long with lengthy feedback on each product I se! nt. Wha t she liked and didn't like and why. But guess what? She wants to have me be another one of her soapy people. What an honor! She doesn't have that many and she has quite a following, so I do feel special that she likes my stuff as much as she does.

My new favorite online shop other than my own is Faery's Muse. And that is another place you can find us. They are in San Diego, so if you live out there, you might actually get your stuff much quicker than from us. ;) And it's already made!

The other thing is we discontinued Chocolate Dipped Orange on Product Body's website since we introduced Dark Chocolate Almond over a year ago, but Faery's Muse now has the exclusive on that scent as long as they carry our products.

Go check out the shop and go check out their other shop, Mystic Dreams, which carries beaded curtains, unbelievable chandeliers, and lots of unique home decor.

Oh! The other thing: Faery's Muse is carrying 6 oz jars of Crush On You for $12.00 which (right now), we do not sell.

Another reason to buy from her... especially if you don't want to buy the full pop.
;)

New in Basecamp: Post a message via email

We just launched a feature that makes posting messages to Basecamp more convenient. We think you're going to find it really handy.

You can now email a message directly to a project. This means you can post messages without even being logged in. Just send a message via email from your desktop, web-based email client, or mobile phone, and it'll post right to Basecamp as a message.

Here's how it works

Each project has a unique email address. And each email address is unique to each user. This is how Basecamp knows which project you want to post the message to, and who's posting the message.

So go into a project and click the Messages tab. Then check the sidebar. You'll see the list of categories as well as a new link at the bottom that says: "Post a message via email". We've highlighted it red in the image below:

Post-via-email

Clicking the link takes you to a dialog that gives you your own unique email address for that project, along with some details about how the feature works:

Post-via-email-instructions

You may want to copy that email address to your address book so you have it any time you want to post a message to that project.

Remember, every project and every user have unique inbound email addresses. So don't share the email address with anyone else. Everyone on your project will see their own email address when they click the "Post a message via email" link. If this email address ever gets spammed, there's a link on the "Post a message via email" screen that lets you generate a new email address.

A few more details

Messages posted via email aren't categorized. If you want to categorize the message you can go into the project later, edit the message, select a category, and save the changes.

Files attached to the email will show up as file attachments on the message. This only works on pay plans - free plans don't include file sharing.

And finally, whenever you email in a message everyone on the project will receive an email notification letting them know a new message has been posted. If they don't want to receive email notifications on that message thread in the future they can opt out by clicking a link at the bottom of the email notification.

Thanks

We hope you find the new feature really useful. Thanks again for using Basecamp!
